Philadelphia Morning 11/8/12

Philadelphia Morning 11/8/12

on my way to Mexico, snapped this through the glass, as you can see

because i leave for work at about 6:30, i catch all kinds of cool sunrises.  there’s a pond that i used to pass every morning until i found a faster way to work, but not a prettier way.  in spring and summer, the pond is coated with pollen and looks like something between a swamp and a puddle of mountain dew soda.  however, in winter, when frozen, and when the sun is peeking through the trees, it looks much better.

morning mist – mullica hill, nj

the previous day’s sun soaks into the crops.  overnight and the next morning, that heat is released and clashes with the cool morning air, creating condensation, also known as a low-lying cloud, also known as fog.

sunset – mullica hill, nj   this reminded me of the beginning of “the lion king.”  because i live near several farms, i see a lot of interesting sunrises and sunsets.  i’d like to stress that i do not use photoshop or anything to mess with color.  i like things to look as naturallly as they actually were.

electric sky – mullica hill, nj

This one is Grasso’s Farm, Wolfert Station Road, Mullica Hill.  I usually try to avoid “unnatural” things like high tension wires, but they actually went well with the idea of the sky looking kind of “electric.”  Published by Piker Press a few years ago.

I used to pass that on every day going to work.

      • It’s beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.

      • rich says:

But in spring its a pollen-covered scummy pond.

I’m a sucker for a beautiful sunset, sunrise too for that matter. “Morning Ice” reminds me of the place we used to go as kids, with our shovels to clear away the snow, so we could skate. Farmlands have their benefits.

    • rich says:

      I miss skating

      • Rhonda says:

So do I! We aren’t too old, never that, just caught up in life. I think I’ll look into some ice skates. What’s the worst that can happen? Never mind, don’t answer. But worth the risk I think.

      • rich says:

        Worth it.

  7. Aha so this is the secret..surrounded by so much beauty
    brilliant shots

    • rich says:

i spend time in two places. one is surrounded by farms, so those flat lands give the horizons. the other place is at the beach. also flat lands, but not farms. ocean, bay, etc. but also tall hotels, casinos, and endless lights.

I’m from the same area and you’ve captured the woodsy essence of backwater Jersey that I think is so little known.

    • rich says:

i drive all over the south jersey area, from near philly, to atlantic city, down to cape may, and anywhere between. i’ll wave as i pass by.

  9. They’re all gorgeous but I love photo N° 2 most.
