I never know ahead of time what movies are being nominated. So in the docu, does that mean Inequality for All was not nominated? Such a shame. It’s really good (as in really-really-good). I’m not sure if I’ve seen Blue Jasmine yet or not (I should know this, but I’ve been catching a lot of great ones and tend to not always remember them). And 12 Years a Slave should win anything they’ve been nominated for. Gravity – I still don’t get it, other than she actually does look great when she’s floating around in the shuttle. Effects are ok. Not like wow-oh-my-fucking-god-did-you-see-that kind. But then again, we’re being wowed over and over, and it’s getting hard to beat the best ones.
p.s. (because you knew i had to come back with one) have you not seen Nebraska? All in b&w. Really good flick!
have not seen it but i want to see it. i was hoping to see 12 years a slave yesterday, but my kid is here and i don’t want to watch that with her, which is why we watched “some like it hot” instead.
good call. planning on seeing philomena later…
i don’t have a drive to see philomena right now, but eventually yes.
i have a near full 2 tb hard drive, but something tells me you’re talking about another kind of drive.
yes, should have said desire to see it. as for your drive, i currently have 12 years, all is lost, and a few others downloaded but haven’t watched yet.
all is lost is something i should not have watched… for obvious reasons.
i have a close friend who had a boat years ago, plans to get another one soon, and refuses to watch that one.
smart move. but i could make a huge list of things i call shenanigans upon. i kept yelling crap throughout the movie. self-defense from not succumbing to my fears? maybe.
whatever it takes. shoulda had a double feature with “jaws” too.
the effects were great. at first, i loved gravity, but the more i thought about it afterward, the less i liked the movie as a whole. they ignored a few significant laws of physics, and that disturbed me a lot. you can’t make such a technical film and get that wrong. specifically, the part when clooney was drifting away when bullock had grabbed hold of the ship. the laws of physics in space would dictate that if bullock stops, clooney stops. it’s not as if he would keep falling because there is no falling where they are. that was too much “wrong” for me.
it just annoyed the hell out of me. everything about it.
i wasn’t annoyed by everything, but the special effects certainly covered up a lot of “wrong” that people ignored.
Serena giornata 🙂 claudine
Just saw Philomena last night. Loved this movie. I had begun to believe great movies weren’t being made.
it is on my list, and i will probably search it out this weekend. thanks!
